Each individual responds differently to a therapeutic situation,
so it is impossible to accurately predict how many visits a particular
person will need. However, as this form of brief therapy is very
private, gentle and quick, with the correct guidance and teamwork
most problems can usually be resolved in an average of three
to four clinical sessions.
It is important to emphasise that P.S.H. is the start
and not the finish of an internal process. Many clients will
continue to experience inner change long after the face to face
sessions are over. This integration process will vary from client
to client ¾ for some it can
be rapid while for others it may be more gradual and subtle over
a longer period of time. It is therefore important for clients to be
patient with themselves as they allow the deeper changes to take place in
whatever time frame is suitable for them.
During therapy the client is aware and in control, often
experiencing a very pleasant degree of mental and physical relaxation
similar to daydreaming or meditation. Though the client will
hear what the therapist is saying, s/he is not required to speak
or reveal information whilst in this relaxed state of awareness.
